Employment

The primary goal of Rhodes to Independence activities is to facilitate systems changes resulting in the gainful employment of all Rhode Islanders with disabilities who are interesting in gaining and retaining employment. We have from day one worked toward systems' change in support of the competitive employment of people with disabilities. RTI has built partnerships that previously did not exist in the state and has measurably improved employment opportunities and supports workers with disabilities. The myriad partnerships which include state agencies, advocacy organizations, economic workforce entities, employers and others have resulted in a strategic collaboration which leverages resources and community involvement to produce positive and employment and enhanced quality of life outcomes.

RTI continues to successfully address the employment needs of and maximize supports for people with disabilities. Accomplishments include (but are not limited to) continuously building a unique partnership with employers, state agencies, advocacy organizations and consumers who are addressing gaps and barriers for people with disabilities who are currently working or wish to work; passage of RI's Medicaid Buy-In program to provide health care for eligible workers with disabilities and development of a RI Business Leadership Network which is a peer-to-peer employer organization facilitating the employment of qualified job-seekers with disabilities.
